
The Songs of Volvizia

The Songs of Volvizia are a collection of intense, ecstatic erotic rhapsodies inspired by, or revealed through, Amg Ada magick. The exact origins of the verses are uncertain but they were composed, most likely, in the mid to late 1960s by an unknown person in the circle of Jane Hurley-Cross who propagated the songs and quoted from them in her classes and workshops. It is certain that Hurley-Cross did not write them herself, but she adopted them as a type of revelation.
Nami Sanders Lohr, who has prepared a definitive version of the songs along with detailed commentary, concluded that they were the product of a type of 'automatic writing' undertaken during 'pathworkings' of lucid dreams with the dreams themselves induced by Amg Ada magick.
In any case, they are clearly the product of a type of erotic vision and have come to be widely used in this magickal path. Although it is not made clear in the verses themselves, the main speaker is assumed to be the dream entity Volvizia who is addressing a dreaming subject.

Through a series of mishaps the full text of the Songs has not survived. Several pages are missing. But several hundred lines are extant. The verses are intensely erotic, mystical, fragmented, lewd, a celebration of female sexuality, with many allusions to magickal practices typical of the Magica Fraxinus.
All the same, they do not represent a 'Bible' or a 'Sacred Text' in the common sense. The text is fluid. It does not offer "laws" or lessons. It captures a certain spirit. It is used for inspiration, both in its direct form and as material for the composition of 'Bridals' to be used to preface Amg Ada rituals. They are used in other ways by the Priestess (Bride) in Amg Ada - they are an inspiration of an especially feminine energy. They are a poetic testimony to the beauty and depth of this path.
